In contemporary settings, a general concern that arose public concern is that social networking service generates unfavourable impacts on both individuals and society. Considering the issue, it is crucial to explore it from two sides.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that social networking service imposes adverse influence on both individual and society. To be more specific, excessive exposure to those social networking service weakens a person’s capability to communicate with others in reality and negatively influences their social competence. It is common that family members scan at the screen of digital device without looking at others at table. Additionally, some corruptive information from social networking service also damages cohesion, credibility and harmony of society. Some young adults lost their property even lives due to their trust in fake online information from social networking service.
On the other hand, the overwhelming advantages of social networking service cannot be ignored. In other words, the advanced technology makes it possible to connect resources regardless of geographical, language and culture barrier so that international trade, commercial cooperation, online education and course, information consultation become possible. For example, a language learner can take online course from online tutor in another country. Furthermore, the connection of resources and exchange of information creates more job opportunities for online users. For example, an online shopkeeper can sell local handicrafts to customers anywhere by means of the online shopping platform. Therefore, it is beneficial for the improvement of welfare and development of society.
In conclusion, although social networking service generates negative influence on one’s communication capability and social cohesion to some extent, the benefits of those online social networking service can never be overlooked.

In contemporary settings, a phenomenon that should be taken into consideration is that the users of social media gradually takes place of face-to-face communication in 21stcentury. In my opinion, the advantages of this approach outweigh the disadvantages of this approach.

第一点 扩大了交往范围 让留学生和家人取得联系 学习语言 社交方便
第二点 没有了面对面的约束 网络聊天更放松
On the one hand, the overwhelming advantages of screen-based technology can never be denied. Primarily, the advanced technology makes it possible for online communicators to interact with each other regardless of geographical barrier, which facilitates communication and promotes cooperation. For example, two online users can chat online through skype or facebook, they can learn a new language or even gain support from their online friend, which can never be acquired in reality. Furthermore, compared with face-to-face communication which needs body language, eye contact and tones, some users feel more relaxed when they type words or see a virtue friend far away, they are more likely to reveal their inner voice by means of social media.

On the other hand, there are also disadvantages of frequent use of social media. Firstly, it weakens users’ disposition to communicate with others in reality. They probably refuse to communicate with families or friends in reality because they devote their energy and time to communicating online through social media. Gradually, their interpersonal skills and teamwork capability will be negatively influenced. Secondly, the excessive exposure to social media damages positive relationship of friends or families. Without enough Face-to-face communication, the relationship tend to be not so closely-knit, because communication is the prerequisite of positive relationship.
In conclusion, while online communicators try to expand their social circle or release their pressure by means of using social media, they should not ignore the face-to-face communication with their families or friends.
