Well I think it depends, if we have different ideas on some trivial issues like
which movie we should watch or restaurant to go have meals, more often than not, I will forgo my idea and follow my friend’s suggestion. But if we don't see eye to eye on big issues, I would definitely choose a nice café and invite my friend to come over, having a heart to heart talk with him or her to figure out the reasons behind our differed opinion. If she has sufficient reasons to hold her ground, I think the best way is to agree to disagree and offer my unconditional support. But if there is any misunderstanding between us, it is better for us to clarify the situation.

Well I would choose to decide on major after taking some courses in college. Because before entering college, most senior high students in China are confused about their future career perspectives; they have little social or work experiences and have been busy with the national college entrance examination, who barely have any time to think over their future or what they are passionate about, so a year of broad education in grade one may give students sufficient time to avoid rushing into some areas which they would regret about and also contribute to an all-round development.

探索火星上是否存在生命。一种方法是找水,另一种是找甲烷。通过火星上的甲烷判断是否有生命。甲烷可以通过生物过程和非生物过程产生。学生问如何判断。教授说和化学里的同位素一样可以用质子判断。火星上甲烷消失的很快,但教授觉得这不是很有价值,应该找其他地球上的化学物质

去career center讨论简历。老师介绍他让以前的老板写推荐信获得现在的工作。虽然之前的工作赚钱,但是自己喜欢帮助学生。然后帮助女生看她的简历,女生的简历没有parttime job的经验,学校有个greenhouse的工作,但女生当时在爱尔兰做其他项目错过了。

Lecture 3
讲动物冒险迁徙因为天气和哺乳。有规律的迁徙,用乌龟举例,breeding season,可以没有predator,并且有空间。无规律迁徙,用bird举例。

Lecture 4
music history of InC。特点:same order但是repeat很多遍,依据演奏者的喜好;演奏人数和乐器数量不限。非常轰动,因为1964的时代背景和音乐非常符合,army country都要求反传统

trial offer让电话或网上购物的顾客先免费试用再给钱。
例子:教授看到锻炼手臂器械的广告,但他没用过所以没买,之后又看见相同产品的不同广告。这次可以先免费试用一个月,喜欢就买,不喜欢就退。他试了一下后喜欢就买下来了

男生要创立hiking club,需要manager
1.另一个男生可以当,但他们想法相左;
2.自己可以当,但要做volunteer时间不够

1.翅膀太大,lift off的时候会hit the ground
2.即使起飞,肌肉不够强壮到支撑conditionous flight
3.根据进化论,只保留对生存有利的能力,那么大的鸟没有predator无需躲避,而且它们的飞行效率很低对捕食没有任何帮助

Listening:会飞
1.不是从standing position起飞,而是通过助跑加借助small hills,并且发现这些大鸟的地方也确实有很多小山丘
2.不需要肌肉支撑,可以借助气流

昨天我们刚说过,一边倒的话大家耳熟能详的理由有压力、交友之类的,本题最少咱们可以用交友吧。小组活动可以交到不同的朋友啊,而众所周知啊,朋友多了路好走啊。其次,除了朋友之外,我们还可以写压力啊,小朋友作业压力很大啊,如果多尝试一些小组活动,可以学会如何合作啊,毫无疑问能够增加他们的竞争力啊。我直接把昨天的主题句复制过来改改,其实都是套路:

First of all, there is no denying that it is an excellent opportunity for children to enlarge their social network if they have the chance to work as a group. The importance of having a large circle of friends to one’s success has never been in much doubt.

Argentavis magnificens, the largest bird to have ever inhabited Earth, lived six million years ago in the southern part of South America that roughly corresponds to modern-day Argentina. The bird, which is known only through fossil remains, weighed up to 68 kilograms. There is some debate about whether this bird was able to fly or whether it had lost its ability to fly at some point during its evolution.
First, there is the problem of lifting off into the air.
Second, even if the bird had managed to lift off, it does not appear to have had enough muscle strength to make continuous flight possible. As
Third, according to the theory of evolution, animals only have abilities that give them an advantage in their struggle to survive.

First, instead of taking off from a standing position, the birds could have used their running style.
Second, there is no reason why the bird would have had to keep flapping its wings in order to stay in the air. It could have stayed in the air by catching so-called thermal, warm current air that rises up into the atmosphere.

Third, the ability to fly would have been very useful for this bird. Why? Because it was probably a scavenger.

难点二:阅读三篇难点解析
今天阅读三篇文章是:Mapping the World(绘制世界地图),Life in the Desert(沙漠中的生命),和Dating Rock Art(测定岩石艺术的年龄)。经比对,话题内容与以往考试有重复,如2016.05.07 Aquatic Desert Animals,2010.12.12 Rock Painting,2016.09.11 Cave and Rock Art,但是一套完全不同的新题,难度系数较大。

任何阅读考试的难度体现在文章和题目设置两方面。一般来说,这两方面此消彼长、辩证存在,不会共同发力为难考生。但今天的这套新题,着实让考生开眼。

下面,以第一篇文章Mapping the World(绘制世界地图)为例,从文章和出题两个角度,帮助考生理清思路,认清考试形势,做出高效务实的备考准备。

新题透露出的文章趋势
全文生词量明显增多,句子结构复杂、单句理解的抽象性增加,并由此导致的前后联系、整体理解信息的要求增强。

考句1
For most mapmakers, recasting the Ptolemaic worldview required a careful study of travel narratives, newly furnished information, and of course other maps and, as a result, the correct delimitation of geographical space emerged slowly, and not without many setbacks and meandering down blind alleys.

解析:这是句子简化题所在考句。要读懂这句话,首先需要解决句子中的大量生词,如recast重新塑造,furnish提供,delimitation定界,setback倒退,meandering down blind alleys在死胡同里的徘徊不前(文学化的比喻象征手法);其次,在句法上需要注意:(1)“not without”双重否定表肯定=with;(2)多个and引发的多级别并列:第一个“and, as a result”引发的是最高级别的并列,将整句话一分为二,前面表原因,后面表结果;第二个“and not without…”引发的是下一级别的并列,对前面的“slowly”进行并列补充;第三个“and meandering…”,是最底层的并列,与前面的“many setbacks”共同并列做without的宾语。整句话的并列难点在于无法通过外观结构寻找并列对象(如像to…and to…),而是根据“内在意思”来顺应并列对象,如“倒退setbacks”和“迂回在死胡同里meandering down blind alleys”在意思上是一种呼应,“走意思”是阅读的最高境界,通过前后的类反呼应、不依靠外在结构而直接通过意思流动推动句子走向,达到母语般的反应速度和流畅性。

整句话意思是:对大多数制图者来说,重新塑造托勒密的世界观需要仔细研究以下内容——关于旅行的记叙、新近提供的信息、以及当然还有其他地图——结果,地理空间位置的准确定界是缓慢出现的,并且伴随着许多倒退和在死胡同里的徘徊不前。
考句2
A globe was intellectually more challenging than a flat map.

解析:这是最后一段的首句,很抽象,不易理解(什么叫做地球仪比平面地图在智识层面更有挑战性),需向下文联系找具体支撑。第二句:With a flat map the unknown lands beyond the seas could be relegated to the map’s borders, where terra incognita (unknown land) could be disguised with elaborate scrolls, texts, or sea monsters. 充斥着大量生词。再看第三句:But a sphere has no periphery, so globe-making offered no opportunities to obfuscate difficult choices. 又充斥着大量生词,而且从单句来看比主题句还要抽象,还要难以理解(什么叫做球体没有边界,所以制作地球仪没有提供任何机会去模糊困难的选项)。需和前句对比比较、整体理解作者意思。即,平面地图有边界,对于制图者没有搞清楚的海外地区可以放在地图的边界上模糊化处理;但在地球仪上,全世界浑然一体没有边界,制图者无法将未知地区模糊化地放在某个角落边界上。

考句3
The impact of this technological revolution helps explain the otherwise paradoxical fact that Ptolemy’s Geography was revised and reissued throughout the sixteenth century even as his maps were increasingly shown to be inaccurate.

解析:语句抽象,留给考生试自行理解。

新题透露出的出题趋势:
直接使用题干中的所谓定位词根本无法在原文定位找答案
题干所涉问题需浏览整段作答,即需综合整段信息
四个选项内容在原文都被提及,而且叙述与原文都保持一致,此时必有三个选项答非所问,需精准理解题干问题

解析
考点设置:因果关系中的原因寻找,注意原因的委婉表达、因果位置不可颠倒,以及因果传递中的因果顺序。如果直接到原文找“because”或题干中的“the great interest in maps”,找到死都找不到。因为“因果关系”在英文中一般不以露骨的“because”呈现(过于生硬);英文更喜欢“以时间暗示因果”,即两件事的“同时发生”或“先后发生”来暗示因果关系,例如,伴随事件A的出现,事件B发生,或事件A出现后,事件B发生了。原文答案所在句为段落前三句话的综合理解: During Europe’s medieval period…,maps were based on ancient, limited knowledge and worldviews. But this changed with the first voyages made by Europeans to the New World….Maps became objects of fascination in the sixteenth century, amounting almost to a craze.

考题2
第5题. It can be inferred from paragraph 2 that medieval maps differed from Ptolemy’s maps in which of the following ways?

解析
比较是考点。注意比较三要素(对象+方面+顺序),以及题干中所考查的比较一方究竟是谁,以防答错方向。此题需要读整段信息,综合理解。并且需要对段落中的抽象词和长难句做精准理解。

考题3
第8题. According to paragraph 3, surveying methods made it possible to produce accurate, detailed maps of

解析
四个选项(A. familiar itineraries;B.pilgrim routes and post roads; C.large landmasses; D.towns and villages)在原文都提到,都与原文表述一致,此时必有三个选项答非所问,只有一个选项才是题干问题真正所指。此时需理清这些概念之间的关系,阅读整段发现,A、B是通过的方法,C、D是最终能够得以绘制的地图,其中D是可以详细绘制的地图(正确答案),而C是不能够详细绘制的地图。

阅读主要观点:   
六百万年前,阿根廷有一种重68公斤巨鹰(argentavis magnificens)。有人认为阿根廷巨鹰没有能力飞或者在它进化的过程中丧失了飞行的能力。
第一,阿根廷巨鹰没有滕飞的能力。它的翼展有7米,所以它在起飞的时候会碰撞地面。现在鸟的身体和翅膀的比例合适,所以在起飞的时候不会撞到地面。
第二,即使阿根廷巨鹰能够顺利起飞,它也没有足够的肌肉支撑长时间飞行。因为它没有足够的肌肉使它巨大的翅膀能够长时间持续快速挥动。
第三,依据进化论,动物只会拥有那些使它们能够生存下来的能力。由于阿根廷巨鹰十分巨大,所以它没有捕食者。它也不会通过飞行来捕食,因为它的飞行是十分笨拙的。所以,在进化的过程中,阿根廷巨鹰可能就丧失了飞行的能力。

听力主要观点:
阿根廷巨鹰可以飞行。

经典范文
The writer says that argentavis magnificens lose the ability of flying during the evolution. On the contrary, the professor demonstrates a contradictory idea that it is probable that the bird has the ability to fly.
First, the writer states that it is difficult for the birds to lift off into the air. While the lecture says that the birds do not take off from a standing position. It could use a running start and then stretch out its wings and run down a small hill to lift off into the wind. And the birds’ fossils are found in the hills. Also, the birds have strong bones and large feet which enable them to run. So it can use this method to get into the air.
Another important point showed in the reading is that the bird does not have enough muscle strength to make continuous flight. The listening, in contrast, points out that there is no necessary for the birds to flapping its wings. And many large birds, such as eagles, use this method to glide for hours without moving their wings.
Finally, the professor states that the ability to fly is useful for the birds which challenges the standpoint made by the writer, who says that the bird lose the ability to fly. However, the professor points out that the bird is a scavenger that is feed on dead animals rather than hunting living animals. So the birds need to fly in a large area to look for dead animals so that they can find sufficient food.
