Argentavis magnificens, the largest bird to have everinhabited Earth, lived six million years ago in the southern part of SouthAmerica that roughly corresponds to modern-day Argentina. There is somedebate about whether this bird was able to fly or whether it had lost itsability to fly at some point during its evolution.
