Some students choose to work or travel after leaving school and before going touniversity. Many people, however, say that working experience is more useful inadult life than traveling. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It has become increasingly common for students to take a gap yearafter finishing school, opting either to work or travel before embarkingon their university education. Some argue that gaining workexperience is more advantageous for adult life in the longterm compared to traveling, but I disagree with their opinion as bothexperiences offer valuable life lessons.

Entering the workforce temporarily provides graduates with first-hand exposure to aprofessional environment and its corresponding monetary reward; however,young people without specific academic training are likely tobecome digitally illiterate and face difficulties in findingsuitable occupations in the information era. The real-worldexperience is invaluable as it bridges the gap between theoreticalknowledge and practical application, enabling students to make moreinformed decisions about their future academic and career choices.Aside from that merit, earning a salary and budgeting it endowstudents with financial skills crucial for managing futureexpenses, including tuition fees and living costs duringuniversity. The downside, however, is that most high school graduates lackprofessional skills that could be used at work immediately, so they cannotbe employed for decent positions; rather, they are consigned to rolesrequiring only manual labor, such as waiters or packers, and too many heavy activities might threaten their physical health.

On the other hand, high school graduates choosing to travel before startinguniversity reap numerous benefits for their overall development.Firstly, traveling exposes young individuals to diverse cultures, enhancingtheir adaptability and cross-cultural communication skills, which areincreasingly valuable in the interconnected world. Experiencingdifferent traditions and social norms can also ignite alifelong interest in global issues and a commitment tointernational cooperation. Secondly, traveling can offer a break from thestructured, often stressful environment of school, providing a mentalreset that can prevent burnout and promote mental health.This break allows students to return to their studies with renewed energy and focus, which can improve their academic performance in the long run. Such merits of taking time to travel encompass cultural,social, and psychological aspects that may not be as easily gained through immediate immersion in the workforce.

In conclusion, the work experience accumulated prior to university education immerses young people in real working environments andgives them a chance to make some money; meanwhile, traveling after highschool nurtures independence and provides a mental health break.Thus, either course of action after graduation enriches students’ perspectives when transitioning into university and adulthood.
